WHAT'S HAPPENING AT MOSD...

Assisi Foundation Makes a Multi-Year Pledge to Support MOSD!

November 1, 2016

The Assisi Foundation of Memphis, Inc. has selected Memphis Oral School for the Deaf to be the recipient of a generous multi-year conditional pledge award to support the MOSD Early Intervention-Expansion (MOSD-EI-X) initiative regarding the Sound Beginnings program. In October, MOSD was privileged to receive a $50,000 grant for the 2016-2017 year.

The MOSD-EI-X project is a collaborative effort with local and statewide agencies to expand listening and spoken language services by reaching more children in the birth-3 population. This grant will support Sound Beginnings, which is designed for families with children (birth-age 3) who have been newly diagnosed as having a hearing loss. Enrollment in this program has nearly doubled since 2013 as more children are diagnosed with hearing loss at birth. There is no other organization in our community providing unique listening and spoken language serves to the birth-3 population.

Research has shown that children who are identified with hearing loss at birth and who receive early amplification and aggressive therapies to develop listening and spoken language can enter kindergarten ready to succeed on par with their hearing peers.

Memphis Oral School for the Deaf is grateful to have the generous support from The Assisi Foundation of Memphis, Inc. in order to reach more deaf and hearing-impaired children at a critical early age and help them develop skills needed to live an independent life.

Thank you for supporting Memphis Oral School for the Deaf!
