MOSD Discovery Room partners with Kroger

We have opened a new Discovery Room at Memphis Oral School for the Deaf this year.  It is a place where the students can break away from the rigors of classroom instruction and therapy sessions to lead discussions based on their interests in the room. Each of our six classrooms visits the Discovery Room once a day for 30 minutes and the teachers and assistants follow the child’s imagination around the room. It is a place where they can go as far as their imagination will take them. Just like a regular preschool, our preschool is set up on weekly thematic units.  Each week, the children are learning information and new vocabulary based on different themes. Each teacher focuses in on the theme of the week in the classroom and the children get pulled out for individual speech therapy as well as auditory therapy for 30 minutes each day to talk about the same theme. The Discovery Room is an extension of this learning model, but it is “student lead.”

We are so humbled to have Kroger as one of our Discovery Room Community Partners! Kroger has already donated Discovery Room items for our weekly themes, impacting our students each week in expressing spontaneous language!

Thank you to Germantown Kroger (Farmington) for your partnership!
