At the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their fullest potential, and we are grateful to have partners like you who share in this vision. For over 65 years, we have been committed to empowering children who are deaf or hard of hearing, utilizing listening and spoken language and the use of assistive hearing technology. We are proud of being able to diversify our programming to include the newly formed total communication program for those who have a co-diagnosis of autism and hearing loss and our language delay program for hearing children. With our unique, intervention approach to education, we help children build confidence, independence, and the skills they need to succeed.

Who we are:
Early Intervention Education Programs: Our trained teachers of the deaf, qualified teachers, teacher assistants, and interventionist educate 18-month to 6-year-old children who are enrolled in our tuition-based part-time developmental and full-time pre-school programs. Each program is specialized, family-centered support for young children with hearing loss who have assistive technology or who might have a language delay, focusing on early listening and spoken language development. Our programs equip families and children with essential skills and strategies to build a strong foundation for lifelong communication and improve learning outcomes for continued academic success.

Speech and Language Therapy: Our certified speech-language pathologists provide therapy focused on articulation, comprehension, and social communication. Through the use of advanced tools and technology, we make therapy engaging and effective.

Audiology Services: Our on-site audiologist conducts regular assessments to optimize the use of hearing aids and cochlear implants, ensuring that each child has access to the latest assistive hearing technology.

Family Support: We understand the challenges families face and provide workshops, resources, and training to equip parents with the knowledge and skills they need to support their child’s communication journey.

Community Engagement: We advocate for children with hearing loss and actively foster a sense of belonging, connecting families with the resources and support they need.
